I bought my first sawmill in 1995, and before I knew it, it had taken over my life. I worked as a portable sawyer more or less full time for almost nine years, in Washington, Oregon and Northern California.

I'm on my second mill now, and I don't do nearly as much portable work as I used to. I've been trying to get sawmilling clients to bring their logs to me, and limiting the long distance jobs that used to be a major part of my life. I'll still do portable work locally, but the days of travelling for weeks away from home with the mill are pretty much over for me. I had some great adventures, and got to be a part of a lot of very cool construction projects.

As a result of these years of sawyering, I have one end of my shop building crammed full of all kinds of interesting wood, mementos from many different jobs over the course of the past 14 years. I've built sheds, rustic furniture and kayaks with wood that I've milled, and carved a bunch of kayak paddles and even a traditional Inuit seal hunting harpoon. From time to time, I sell small pieces of nice craft or turning wood on eBay.

You can see more pictures and information about the mill on the site that I originally set up for it years ago,
